From the City to the Park: The VEIA Story

From the City to the Park: The VEIA Story

I spent eight years in London chasing a version of success that lived on spreadsheets. First in construction management and then five years in Private Equity Real Estate, my life was measured in hours at the office, grey skies, and high-pressure deals. It was a world I knew well, but after nearly a decade, I realized I was missing the three things that actually matter: sunlight, time, and true connection.

The Leap of Faith

My wife and I decided it was time for a change—not just a new job, but a new lifestyle. With having had the opportunity to relocate to Madrid and my brother already living here, the choice was clear. Madrid offered the "vibes" I had been craving, plus the proximity to our families back in Germany.

But the transition wasn't a straight line.

The "Aha" Moment (and a Reality Check)

My original dream was massive: a "Lifestyle-hub" featuring a boutique gym, a co-working space, and a specialty coffee shop. I spent months scouting properties, but the right door just wouldn't open. I faced a choice: keep waiting for the "perfect" space, or start building the community now.

I decided to stop waiting. I found a small, beautiful spot near Retiro Park and traded my suit for an oversized barista shirt.

Learning the Language—One Cup at a Time

When I landed in Spain, I didn't speak the language. There is no better way to learn Spanish than being behind the bar, serving locals their morning brew. Every "Hola" and "Gracias" helped me weave myself into the fabric of this neighborhood.

Why VEIA?

I didn't just want to open a cafe; I wanted to build a sanctuary for social, physical, and mental health. That’s why we chose to be right next to Retiro. It’s our backyard. It’s where our community meets for our weekly social runs and where we reconnect with ourselves. Whether you’re here for a pour-over after a jog or just a quiet moment away from the screen, VEIA is a reminder that a better lifestyle isn't something you find—it's something you pour, one cup at a time.

I’m glad you’re here. Let’s grab a coffee.
